CCDA Maya Scholarship Fund

Access to education is limited in rural Guatemala and many farmers’ children are unable to attend school. Using profits from their fair trade coffee sales and donations from supporters in Canada, the CCDA provides scholarships to enable the children of its poorer members to attend school. Since there are not enough funds for every child that needs a scholarship, the CCDA prioritizes girls, children who have lost a parent, and youth who will study skill, such as bookkeeping, teaching and agronomy that the CCDA villages need. This enables Mayan farming communities to take control of their own development. There are currently 218 Mayan students who are able to study due to support from the CCDA's scholarship fund. (See attached 2011 report from the CCDA on their Education Fund.)

If you are interested in contributing to the CCDA's Education Fund, please send a cheque to CoDevelopment Canada (Suite 260, 2747 East Hasting St., Vancouver, BC V5K 1Z8 - codev.org), with "CCDA Ed Fund" in the memo line. CoDevelopment assists our support for the CCDA's Education Fund by issuing tax receipts to donors. If you do not need a tax receipt, you can also send your donation directly to Cafe Justicia at 3205 Findlay St. Vancouver, BC V5N 4E6.
