Fundraiser for the CCDA

By admin - Posted on 06 June 2010

CEIBA, a Vancouver-based Canada-Guatemala solidarity organization, is putting on “ The Price Is Fair”, an all ages game show night and fundraiser. We’re raising money for the CCDA, the Guatemalan Fair Trade Coffee Farmer and Social Justice Organization we work with. It’s happening on June 12 from 6:30pm-9:30pm, and we’re hoping you can make it! There’s going to be a Coffee Chain Game, a Fair Trade Trivia Game Show and authentic Guatemalan snacks and drinks. We’ll also be having a Silent Auction, featuring items from Tomatoes Restaurant, Ten Thousand Villages, Stella’s Restaurant, , Dan Mangan and Japandroids autographed merchandise, Artisanal Glass Work and Pottery, and much much more. The best part, of course, is that it’s all for a great cause! All proceeds from this event will be going to the CCDA Farmer’s Co-op and Indigenous Rights Organization. The CCDA is currently facing EXTREMELY difficult circumstances. In February, They had 18,000 pounds of Café Justicia fair trade coffee stolen from their production facility in one night by people looking to financially cripple the organization. In addition, Leocadio Juracan, the national coordinator of the CCDA, was forced to come to Canada with his family for 2 months after they received repeated death threats and an attempt was made on Mr Juracan’s life.In the last week, we have learned that Tropical Storm Agatha has devastated many CCDA communities. Over 150,000 coffee plants have been destroyed and mudslides have destroyed entire villages, houses and access to drinking. The CCDA is currently coordinating emergency response efforts and shelters to the best of their ability in the region around San Lucas Tolíman. The funds raised from this event will be going to address the immediate needs of CCDA communities and families. What: THE PRICE IS FAIR - ALL AGES GAME SHOW NIGHTWho: EVERYONE!
